Those Experiencing Homelessness Face Threats from the Heat this Summer

This summer, as many crank up the A/C to cool off from the South Florida heat, some will merely look for a shady spot to lay down in hopes of finding relief from the sun. And this year with the steady inflation, more and more people will be experiencing homelessness and struggling to stay safe and healthy while battling the elements.

Temperatures this weekend are expected to climb into the 90s, and many who don’t have shelter will end up with sunburn and/or dehydration. Our two shelters in Naples and Immokalee are doing all they can to help those in need, but our capacity is maxed out with a waitlist of around 100 people long.

If you’d like to help, our shelter team is asking for summer essentials to distribute to those in need. Items like water, sunscreen and bug spray can make a big difference for someone who’s experiencing homelessness. Donated items can be dropped off at our Campbell Lodge shelter (2001 Airport Road, S.).
