St. Matthew’s House Helped Provide Once-Homeless Woman with Furniture for First Apartment

Earlier this week, St. Matthew’s House teamed up with two other local organizations (Youth Haven and GL Homes) to help a woman find furniture for her first apartment.

Making the move from Africa to Southwest Florida wasn’t easy for Jacqueline Mengue, and after struggling through some hardships, she wound up on the streets – homeless. Then Mengue found Youth Haven who provided her a place to stay and the support she needed to get back on her feet.

And thanks to GL Homes, she’s secured an apartment – her first! GL Homes also provided her with $3,000 to purchase items from our St. Matthew’s House thrift stores to make her new house a home. So now, armed with a GED, an unbreakable spirit and a community of love and support – Mengue has big plans for her future and is excited for what’s next!
