When gas prices surge, grocery costs spike, and rent skyrockets, yet income remains the same, something’s got to give! And unfortunately, when many people look at what they can go without food ends up at the top of the list. The increased attendance at our mobile food distributions makes this evidently clear.
This isn’t a new phenomenon. In fact, we’ve been seeing this trend since we first reported on increased grocery costs back in October. But now that it’s summertime, many families are feeling the strain of not having meals provided by schools along with all the other usual costs of living.
As we see the demand for food assistance continue to grow, we’re so grateful to all of our community partners including the Harry Chapin Food Bank and Midwest Food Bank for providing us with food to distribute through our mobile pantry. Because to those in need, it’s more than just food; it’s hope for a better tomorrow, and together we can continue making that a reality.
