Hope for the Holidays


Thanksgiving and Christmas are special times at St. Matthew’s House. Below is a list of the upcoming events during the holiday season. The meals distributed during the Christmas distributions will include one turkey approximately 12-14 lbs. or one ham.
Individuals receiving a Thanksgiving/Christmas meal distribution will need to qualify (below).

Give During December at Whole Foods Market

This November, the Whole Foods Market store in Naples launched a food drive to assist St. Matthew’s House during the holidays.

In an effort to bring holiday cheer to struggling individuals and families, the store will continue to conduct the food

drive until Sunday, Dec. 25, 2016. There is a collection site provided inside the store where customers can donate. Shoppers are encouraged to grab a list of goods accepted by St. Matthew’s House upon entering the store or at Customer Service.

Suggested Items

Everyday and seasonal items requested include: canned goods; tuna, meats (chicken, Spam, salmon, etc.); fruit; tomatoes; pinto and black beans; small peanut butter jars; small jams/jellies; cereals; dried beans; pasta sauce; shelf stable milk; rice; spaghetti; instant mashed potatoes; gravy; stuffing; canned sweet potatoes; cranberries; corn and green beans; gelatin dessert; marshmallows; diapers size 4, 5 and 6; and baby wipes.

Christmas Gift Donations

Would you like to bless a person in need this Christmas?  There are a number of opportunities to sponsor a resident  for Christmas. For many this may be the first Christmas in quite some time a resident receives a new item or article of clothing.

Items will need to be dropped off no later than December 16th at 2601 Airport Road South in Naples and should be unwrapped.

Candlelight Vigil

December 21st is the first day of winter and the longest night of the year.

Join St. Matthew’s House as advocates, service providers, homeless and formerly homeless people, religious leaders, and concerned citizens honor the lives and dreams of members of the St. Matthew’s House family who died this year.

National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

12/21 – 6:00PM at the Naples Shelter

Immediately following the ceremony, Santa Claus will distribute Christmas presents to St. Matthew’s House residents.



Qualifications for Direct Assistance

Recipients must be a resident of Collier County (Hendry or Glades for the LaBelle distribution) and will need to meet one of the following criteria:

  • Individuals 62 or older
  • Permanently disabled with proof of disability
  • Households with minor children 17 and under
  • One meal per family

For those not able to make it for the distribution or those that do not qualify, we will be serving our annual Thanksgiving feast from noon to 4 PM at the Naples Shelter located at 2001 Airport Road South.
