St. Matthew’s House Transitions Bonita Springs Food Pantry Services to Café of Life

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – After 9 years of operation, St. Matthew’s House has announced it will merge its long-standing pantry operation in Bonita Springs with Café of Life (10540 Childers Street, Bonita Springs).

St. Matthew’s House has agreed to transport all remaining pantry inventory to Café of Life, including shelving, and will provide volunteer access for the organization to continue its mission of feeding the hungry in our community. St. Matthew’s House has also agreed to provide ongoing support for the Café of Life programs with any food surplus it has or other critical needs.

Pantry and direct assistance services have been held at the Bonita Springs Thrift Store (25091 Bernwood Dr., Bonita Springs) since 2006. Distribution services will now be solely run by Café of Life through its Women’s Club Building on Childers Street.

“This is an exciting time for our organization to both continue to serve the hungry in our southwest Florida community and celebrate the growth of another organization with a matching mission,” said Vann Ellison, President/CEO of St. Matthew’s House. “There are so many hurting people in our area and we feel this partnership allows them to get the assistance they need from people focused on making a difference.”

Café of Life will begin to offer the services beginning January 29, 2015.

Photo and video opportunities are available on 1/29/15 and can be coordinated by contacting the St. Matthew’s House Communications Department.

About Café of Life

Launched in 1998, the Cafe of Life started by serving coffee and donuts out of a storefront shop on Old 41. Currently it is the only “soup kitchen” in Bonita Springs and served over 18,000 meals in 2014. Meals are prepared by volunteers, and the Cafe is largely volunteer run. In 2014 the organization recorded over 1800 volunteer hours.

The Cafe of Life is a 501(c) (3) registered nonprofit, and a United Way Partner Agency. All support for the Cafe of Life operations comes from private donors and grants from privately held charitable organizations.
